Following the great success of previous productions, HJ Bökkers presents his latest show. The title Hier! is deceptively simple, but in Low Saxon it contains a great deal: a greeting, an exclamation, an invitation – there it is, this is what you are being served, and perhaps exactly where we need to be.
Bökkers builds a unique bridge between ingenious banter and genuine depth. The monologues form the backbone, accompanied by fitting songs – sometimes well-known, sometimes specially written. Sharp, disarming, witty, and sometimes unexpectedly moving.
It was striking that the venues were sold out both within and outside the Low Saxon language area. When HJ asked his audience “Dutch or Low Saxon?” the answer was unanimous: Low Saxon, please! A new album and a new evening for anyone who wants to see this born storyteller at work.
