Toetie

Toetie is an ordinary quarter note in the respectable village of Kwarterdam – where everyone sounds exactly the same. Day in, day out. Boring! He sets out and discovers a colorful world full of special notes: from the busy eighth notes Rita and Lynn to the dramatic crescendo Decibella. A colorful musical family show about daring to be different and collaborating – with live music.

During his adventure, Toetie also meets the quiet Serena and the swinging P. Kussie. All very different from him, but each with an inspiring message. When he takes his new friends to Kwarterdam, he encounters resistance: “They don’t belong here!” With the help of the wise, soft treble clef, the performance shows how precisely those differences create harmony.

Mark van Vliet portrays all the roles himself with humor and visual gags, while effortlessly engaging the audience in the story. Together with musicians Ivo and Laurens Kouwenhoven, he makes music accessible to everyone and lets children experience how connecting playing together can be.

The music is by Ivo Kouwenhoven, a versatile Dutch composer, conductor, and music educator specializing in catchy compositions for youth and wind orchestras. Toetie comes complete with educational material, including vocal backing tracks from the performance.
