Chelsey plays shop with her classmates, but the pressure becomes too much. When her big sister Luca comes to the rescue, the game changes completely. Through rousing musical theater, this production explores how to care for others and yourself at the same time.
Playing shop is the class’s favorite game. Chelsey does her best, but is overwhelmed: when she closes the shop the others want to go inside, when she gives a discount they want it for free, and the toys are snatched out of her hands. At her wits’ end, she calls her big sister Luca over. Chelsey is sweet and helps others; Luca is bossy and only thinks of himself. Chelsey follows the rules; Luca makes the rules.
Superhuman Wanted explores the question of how to be kind to others, but also to yourself. How do you set boundaries? Why is it so difficult to say no? And do we all always need a big sister to save us?
The production is loosely based on The Good Person of Sezuan , Bertolt Brecht’s classic play about setting boundaries and powerlessness. The creators of the successful production King Bowi (2021) are joining forces again.
Themes: Setting boundaries, standing up for yourself, responsibility for the group, who sets the rules, power and powerlessness.
